Women's Health

Gynecology is the branch of medicine that deals with the health of females, specifically the female reproductive organs. Great Plains Women's Health Center provides gynecologic care to women of all ages. Our services are devoted to addressing each women’s individual needs by our highly trained and caring staff.

As part of comprehensive gynecologic care, we provide annual well woman exams. During your well woman exam, you will be screened for potential gynecologic health problems. These screenings may include a pelvic exam, pap smear, breast exam, laboratory testing, as well as contraceptive or menopause management counseling.

In addition to annual well woman exams, we provide care for a variety of gynecologic issues including, but not limited to:

  • Colposcopy & LEEP procedures for the management of abnormal pap smears
A colposcopy is a type of cervical cancer test. LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) is an approach used to treat high grade cervical dysplasia discovered upon colposcopic examination.
  • Prevention information and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases
STDs can cause pelvic pain, pregnancy complications, infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, and cancers such as HPV-associated cervical and rectal cancers.
  • Treatment for fibroids and endometriosis
Fibroids are noncancerous growths in the uterus that can develop during a woman's childbearing years. Endometriosis is a disorder where tissue grows outside of the uterus, commonly involving the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and tissue lining your pelvis.
  • Treatment for uterine and vaginal prolapse
Uterine prolapse occurs when the muscles and tissue in your pelvis weaken causing the uterus to drop into the vagina. A vaginal prolapse occurs when pelvic floor muscles, tissues, and ligaments weaken and stretch causing them to drop out of their normal position.
  • Treatment for incontinence and other bladder issues
Loss of bladder control is a common and embarrassing problem. Severity ranges from occasional leakage when coughing or sneezing to sudden and strong urges to urinate where one is unable to get to the toilet in time.
  • Diagnosis and treatment for pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding
Abnormal bleeding can include bleeding after you have stopped having your period. It is not normal to bleed after you are in menopause.
  • Cancer screening
We screen for cancer during annual well-woman exams, i.e. pelvic exams and breast exams.
  • Osteoporosis screening (Bone Densitometry)
Osteoporosis is closely related to a drop in estrogen, so post-menopausal women may be more susceptible.
  • Treatment for vaginal infections
Vaginal infections can range from itchiness to discharge to pain/discomfort.
  • Contraception, including IUDs, tubal ligation, and others
If you are not planning to get pregnant, there are options available to prevent pregnancy either in the short term or permanently.
  • Family planning counseling
Whether you are struggling to become pregnant or are seeking birth control options, we can discuss available options and a plan.
  • Menopause management
Menopause can cause hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and sleep disturbances. This can be treated with lifestyle changes, hormone therapy, and dietary supplements.
  • Breast exams and mammograms
Breast exams are part of the annual well-woman exam. If a mammogram is recommended for you, the provider will help schedule at a location that is most convenient for the patient.
  • Fertility evaluation and treatment including ovulation induction and intrauterine inseminations
If fertility challenges exist, an evaluation can be provided where options for an insemination process can be discussed.
